I have been a member of SISKA, South Island Sea Kayaking Association since its inception 3 years ago. I call myself a fair weather kayaker as you will find me out mostly in the summer months. I did my first overnight/week long paddle trip last summer. My husband, I and four others spent a week up at Nuchalitz Inlet. We drove to Zeballas and then up a logging road to our put-in at Little Espinosa Inlet. Our first two nights were spent on Rosa Island, beautiful white sand beach, and then the remaining nights on Island 40 North, more isolated and thus less boat traffic. Spent five hours a day on the water touring around to Catala Island and throughout Nuchalitz Provincial Park ( see following link)

That sounds like an amazing trip! I used to kayak quite a bit with my Dad, but never as far as your trip. We actually built to kayaks in our garage about 15 years ago, and I try to take them out each summer. Thanks for sharing Jane!

My first ski trip was when I was in grade 9 at Arbutus Junior High in Victoria, BC. We went to Forbidden Plateau, sadly the mountain closed back in the late 90s. Without this teacher sponsored trips I may never had learned to ski; thanks to those teachers who were willing to take a group of teenagers skiing, leaving at 4:30am. I gave back by being a teacher sponsor when I taught in South Surrey, we went to Grouse Mtn. and Mt. Seymour, different years. I skied until I had children, my son was born in 1992 and my daughter in 1994. I returned to skiing after our return to Victoria in 1999. I am lucky in that my sister is part owner of a chalet up on Mt. Washington. My first trip this year is this upcoming weekend and I am so looking forward to playing in the snow. If you ever want to see what the snow conditions are like check out the web cams, upper right, on the link below. I know of a great place to rent if you ever need accommodation.

This is the site of the school I teach at. It is important to me as I helped build it from the ground up.
I was hired in October of its first year. The administrator and teachers worked as a team to build the school. We started as Home Learners' Link, a K-8 school offering onsite classes, most resources were paper based. The demand grew for a secondary component so we progressed over two years to a K-12 school. We moved our secondary school to a new location and collaboratively named it The Link, within a year our middle school moved to this location as well. Over the next few years our courses moved from mostly paper based to being offered online, using Blackboard. Two years ago both of our schools moved to our present location at SJ Willis Education Centre offering K-12 in one location. From the start we have been a hybrid program offering both face to face and distance learning. Presently some of our courses are a combination of online learning and paper based where was as others are all online. I presently teach Math 8 with a face to face component/tutorials for those who live locally and Physical Education 5-12 at a distance, as well as offering an onsite daily drop-in gym time and related field trips throughout the school year. If you would ever like to come for a visit let me know and I will be your tour guide.

Hi Jane - Kris here - I am hoping to buy my own kayak soon and start kayaking as a new hobby. We have lots of lakes close by and I hope to explore a bit more of the province, too.
Thanks for the link - I'll bookmark it and look into it in my 'free' time :)
